I never received
so much as a rat’s ass in the mail
I take it you never sent it
…though those messages seemed
to suggest you would…

But who uses post these days
[You can’t even trust a priest,
let alone a postie].

Those three words in particular,
that were resigned
inside the cold casing of text,

that lacked the resonation
of tone and expression of voice
and jarred in my ears,

weren’t a lie;
They were just honest insincerity.

Things slip out
that you don’t mean,
unsubstantiated and inverted;

three particular words of rapture
wreak a sharp sting
like a careless backhand,

and a parched, withered heart
sinks into itself
with the disappointment
of coming so tantalisingly close

but remaining
so far
from satiety.

The witherd heart
"so far from satiety."

Those three words of rapture.

The sizzle without the steak.

Jimmy doesn't sound like a likeable bloke.
:iconthrowaway-tourniquet:
Nope. Everyone hated him in the end, for one reason or another. He managed to piss off a lot of Renmarkians.

Indeed, the posties are not to be trusted, sticky-handed villains that they are. As we can clearly see, one of them has stolen your rat's ass while it was in transit. Thievery!

Those three words. They require a second to speak, a rice grain's equivalent of energy to twitch the tongue and great honesty. Cut out that last one and they don't mean much. Buy hey, nobody will notice the difference and next to no effort is needed this way, right?

Talk is cheap, people say. But it depends who is talking. Some expel false words from their mouths at a rapid pace and talk is cheap for them. But others weigh much on every word and put plenty of thought and feeling into all they speak. Talk is costly for the honest.

I like the title. The euphemism of honest insincerity for what is blatantly a lie puts emphasis upon the use of hollow words to convice others of something deceitful and untrue.

Jimmy...

He had almost slipped through my memory. But now. Yes I remember him.

He was a peculiar character. All talk and no talent. Nothing special really..

I hate that he was so skilled at luring unsuspected victims into all his falsities (that may not be a word) . He was the kind of bloke who 'needed' to be wanted... but never gave in return. He has issues.

As the old saying goes- a man is only as good as his word. And these words tell you all you need to know about Jimmy.
